Raw data simulation software "SIMA"

To validate the new navigation algorithms the raw data simulation tool "SIMA", running from the MATLAB environment, was developed, that can simulate the raw data of gyroscopes and accelerometers in a multi sensor array. Capabilities of SIMA and its advantages are:

  • The possibility to evaluate navigation algorithms with same options and conditions. Therefore each filter algorithm can be analyzed regarding its robustness for example as influence potential of a specified sensor error on the calculated navigation solution.
  • Virtual sensor platforms can be created and optimized to verify and analyze its advantages for a given application. Therefore a very cost-effective prototyping can be supported.
  • After successfully passing all simulated tests the prototyp platforms and algorithms can be evaluated with real data, that can lead to independent results.

SIMA is a very flexible tool that can simulate raw data for any sensor and platform configuration. After definition of the individual platform coordinates and orientation of each sensor axis and the trajectory, that describes the body movement raw observations are created. With an additional sensor error model, noise and biases or drifts can be introduced.
